Google will delete millions of Gmail and YouTube accounts soon, 7 things to keep in mind
Google has announced that it will be deleting millions of inactive Gmail and YouTube accounts in December 2023. This means that any accounts that have not been used or signed into for at least two years will be deleted, along with all of the content stored in those accounts.
Here are 7 things to keep in mind about Google's upcoming account deletion policy:
- The policy will take effect in December 2023. This means that you have until then to sign in to your Gmail and YouTube accounts and make sure that they are active.
- Google will send multiple notifications before deleting an account. If you have an inactive account, Google will send you multiple emails and notifications over several months leading up to the deletion date. These notifications will give you the opportunity to sign in and reactivate your account.
- Google will delete all content from inactive accounts. This includes emails, files, videos, and other data. Once an account is deleted, there is no way to recover the content.
- There are a few exceptions to the account deletion policy. Google will not delete accounts that are used for business purposes, accounts that are used to access government services, or accounts that are used to store medical or financial information.
- You can prevent your account from being deleted by signing in regularly. The best way to keep your account active is to sign in at least once every two years.
- If you have an inactive account that you want to keep, you can request that Google keep it active. To do this, you will need to contact Google support and provide them with information about your account.
- If you have any questions about Google's account deletion policy, you can contact Google support. They will be able to answer any questions you have and help you to keep your account active.
If you have an inactive Gmail or YouTube account, it is important to sign in and make sure that it is active before December 2023. If you do not, your account and all of the content stored in it will be deleted.
